Endowments and Scholarships

The Department of Chemistry has many funding opportunities in addition to annual endowed scholarships, a listing of some of these opportunities are given below.

Endowments

Lester Andrews Endowed Fellowship in Chemistry

The Fellowship is for a 3 year term for the acknowledgment of exceptionally meritorious research faculty in the Department of Chemistry.   Endowment will provide a salary supplement and support of the use of the holder of this fellowship.

Lester Andrews Graduate Research Symposium Endowment

This fund was established to support the Lester S. Andrews Graduate Research Symposium to fund the expenses of the symposium and fund travel awards for a number of talented graduate students to attend the symposium and to provide monetary awards for the best graduate research presentations.

George Kappler Endowed Fund for Excellence

Used at the discretion of the department head of Chemistry to provide critical support for various supplemental activities that complement, enhance, or expand the mission of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Harold and Reatha Linley Spotlight Award

This fund was established to acknowledge Reatha Linley’s positive impact on the Chemistry Department faculty and staff and in recognition of her devotion, passion, and dedication to the department.  A monetary award is awarded annually to a deserving faculty or staff member that is making a positive impact within the Chemistry Department.

Dr. Howard E. Shook, Jr. Chemistry Excellence Endowment

This fund was established to assist deserving students and faculty in the department of chemistry at MSU and allows growth and development in the department by providing critical support for various supplemental activities that complement, enhance, or expand the mission of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences by providing support and sustain equipment enhancements, classroom and lab upgrades and other important resources needed to ensure growth and development within the department.

Harry C. & Mary V. Simrall Memorial Endowment

Funds from this endowment are to be used as determined by the Head of the Department of Chemistry for equipment, research support, student scholarships or any other pressing need related to teaching, research, and other activities related to the mission of the Department.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships have been established for deserving students enrolled in Chemistry and Mississippi State University that are in good standing, demonstrated academic achievement, a minimum 3.0 GPA in Chemistry coursework, and may require demonstration of financial need:
