MSU Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Mahesh K. Gangishetty, has received a prestigious $550,000 NSF CAREER award to develop next-generation LED technology using environmentally friendly, transparent, and energy-efficient ternary copper halide compounds. His research aims to create full-spectrum emitting devices that remain visually clear, with potential applications in see-through displays, vehicle windshields, and ambient window lighting. The project also emphasizes educational outreach, engaging Mississippi 4-H youth and K–12 students—especially in rural areas—with hands-on STEM activities focused on LEDs, semiconductors, and robotics. The award highlights both Gangishetty’s innovative research and MSU’s growing prominence in materials science and undergraduate research opportunities.
