MSU PhD candidate, Taofiq Abdulraheem, spent the summer gaining hands-on biotechnology experience through an internship at Biogen in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. As a quality control intern, he developed and analyzed liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods for antisense oligonucleotides, learning to operate mass spectrometers, interpret complex data, and communicate scientific results effectively. Abdulraheem credited his preparation and technical foundation to his training from the Chemistry department, and his advisor, Dr. Amanda Patrick, highlighted how his achievement reflects the department's commitment to preparing graduate students for success across both academic and industry settings.
