Henry Tran is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Mississippi State University. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics and Chemistry from The Ohio State University, an M.Phil. in Scientific Computing from the University of Cambridge, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by postdoctoral research at Columbia University.

The Tran Group develops theoretical and computational frameworks to design next-generation materials for clean energy, catalysis, and emerging computing architectures. By simulating coupled electronic and nuclear dynamics at the quantum scale, we link microscopic interactions to macroscopic device performance. To overcome the prohibitive scaling of traditional electronic structure methods, our lab couples physics-based theory, exploiting the intrinsic locality and sparsity of quantum systems, with modern machine learning architectures. This integrated approach allows us to scale rigorous quantum chemical calculations from isolated molecules to complex extended systems, enabling the rational, AI-driven discovery of functional materials.
