Ward, McTaggart, and Stevenson join MSU Chemistry

August 18, 2020

We congratulate and welcome three new professionals, Dr. Rebeca M. Ward, Ms. Kathryn D. McTaggart, and Ms. Sara Stevenson, to our Department!

Dr. Becca Ward joins the department as Lecturer & Associate Lab Coordinator and hails from the great state of Minnesota. She received two B.A. degrees, with honors, in both Chemistry and Anthropology from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.  She followed that up with the Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Ward’s dissertation and postdoctoral work at UMN included both experimental and computational physical chemistry with focus on microwave spectroscopy and mechanisms for the gas phase formation of sulfuric anhydrides and their implications for atmospheric aerosols.  For the last few years, Becca has worked as an education facilitator, curriculum developer, script writer, and content consultant for science education media groups.  Her initial primary role will be to enhance the content and delivery of our physical chemistry and other upper division laboratory courses.  In addition, Becca will join our distance education team. We are excited that she is bringing her skills and experience to help develop a host of opportunities for increased value across our Department and CAS.

Kathryn joins us as Business Manager I, effective August 16, 2020.  She hails from Wren, Mississippi and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Mississippi University for Women.  She joined MSU as an accounting assistant and was rapidly promoted to administrative assistant, and ultimately to Business Manager for another department.  In 2016, Kathryn ventured beyond academia to become the accounting director at a large regional corporation, where she remained until joining chemistry.

Sara joins us as office associate. She earned a B.S. degree in animal science from MSU in 2010.  She comes to us highly recommended with a wide range of business administration experience.
