Congratulations to Rachael Jordan and Zak McCarthy on receiving the ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate chemistry majors who express an interest in teaching high school chemistry. Students receive $10,000 each academic year for up to six years.
Rachael is returning to MSU as a sophomore chemistry major. Upon graduation, she plans to teach high school chemistry in a rural area with the hope of starting a club for those children interested in STEM careers. She wants to encourage students to pursue education in order to better enrich their lives.
Upon entering MSU, Zak knew he wanted to obtain his degree in chemistry, yet he was unsure of his career path with his degree. He said everything fell into place when he read about the ACS-Hach Scholarship. He wants to teach high school chemistry with the hope of helping students embrace the field and realize the potential in a possible career in chemistry.
