Established biochemist, material scientists, and Military Lab leader, Dr. Joshua Kogot, will join the Department of Chemistry as Assistant Professor beginning August 16, 2018.
Dr. Kogot received his Ph.D. in Chemistry & Biochemistry (2008) from Florida State University where he was a Center for Materials Research and Technology (MARTECH) Graduate Research Fellow. He then accepted an ORAU Postdoctoral Fellowship at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, MD before joining ARL as Research Chemist in 2010. In 2014, Joshua was named Biotechnology Group Lead at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Panama City, FL, where, during and since, he taught chemistry at FSU as Adjunct Faculty.
“Dr. Kogot brings extraordinary skills and new directions as he has received wide-spread recognition for his ongoing work developing biomaterials from hagfish protein-based filaments and biomimetic electrosensors inspired by shark protein-based hydrogels,” said Dr. Dennis Smith, Head of Chemistry. “With Joshua’s experience and demonstrated drive for discovery and innovation, he uniquely addresses our growth needs in both biochemistry and materials chemistry,” Smith says.
Dr. Kogot is expected to be a highly sought advisor and collaborator by many across campus and beyond as he adds much needed capabilities to our Department and MSU.
