MSU Chemistry alum, Dr. Sameera R. Gunatilake, was recently awarded the “Ramakrishna Memorial Award" by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. This award is given annually for an exceptional research contribution of an original nature in the field of Inorganic and/ or Analytical Chemistry and/or related areas such as Bio-inorganic Chemistry or Bioanalytical Chemistry. As the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon is the professional association of chemists in Sri Lanka, this award is open to all researchers in the country:
He previously received the Sri Lanka President’s award for scientific research awarded by the National Research Council for the top paper published in Sri Lanka in 2017:
After earning his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Todd Mlsna in 2014, Dr. Gunatilake began his independent career as a faculty member at the prestigious Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. “Not a surprising result at all”, says Prof. Mlsna, “Sam was an exemplary student and has been a great ambassador for our research group and Department.” The Department of Chemistry congratulates Dr. Gunatilake on this impressive achievement.
