Chem Fry 2017 was a wonderful success! Family and friends of the chemistry department gathered under the trees outside Hand Lab on August 9th for a fish fry. Everyone enjoyed live music provided by Professor Bill Cooke and Charles Schimpf as they ate the freshly fried catfish, fried pickles, hushpuppies, and more. It was a perfect time to introduce our new TAs and welcome everyone back.
Dr. Dennis Smith, Jr. perfectly summed up the success of the event. “In keeping with chemistry department tradition, as found most everywhere, our welcome kick-off event sets the tone for our working environment and embraces our common denominator of being people first and chemists a very close second. With so many new faces and diverse cultures, we decided that what better way to welcome folks to Mississippi than with a down in the delta catfish fry with all the fixins topped off with the quintessential southern sounds of Prof. Bill Cooke and Charles Schimpf. The event was a hit with the new students and faculty in addition our friends and collaborators across the college and university and awesome neighbors at the State Chem Lab.”
