The first Chemistry Scholarship Golf Tournament was held in the spring of 2010 for the purpose of raising funds to support undergraduate research scholarships for hard working, high achieving students. Since the tournaments inception, an average of 5 research scholarships per year have been awarded. These awards have enabled students to work alongside our distinguished faculty during the 10 week summer term on projects that have challenged the students, afforded them access to advanced instrumentation, and provided opportunities to practice laboratory skills and data analysis. The projects have included all areas of chemistry, ranging from biofuel production and nanoparticle synthesis for new materials, NMR interpretation of disordered protein regions and DNA folding in cancer genes. Much of the research has been presented by the students in oral or poster presentations at conferences and in journal publications.

The research opportunities that have been afforded to the students has assisted all of our past recipients in gaining admission to graduate school or professional school where they are able to further their education toward a doctorate degree in Chemistry or a professional degree.

Our 2016 goal is to fund 7 research scholarships. Please help us support these undergraduate students as they gain experience in the Chemical research environment.
